We are creating a culture where everyone can feel like they belong, find authentic connections, and take part in experiences that connect to their own identity. This is our vision for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), and it means that we try to integrate a DEI perspective into every aspect of our business - through supporting a vibrant and diverse merchant community, empowering our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), organising dedicated internal DEI programming and launching various tools and guidelines that help us ensure a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace for our team. Below you will find more information and resources.

Our Strategic Focus Areas

Community

Groupon's ERGs (Employee Resource Groups) are voluntary employee-led groups that provide a space for individuals who share common identities or experiences to connect, support one another, and drive positive change. ERGs promote inclusivity, empower employees, and serve as valuable resources for networking, mentorship, and professional development. They act as a "voice" for the group identity, help actively attract, develop, and retain talent; assist in developing new business opportunities; promote Groupon's brand, and engage in community outreach. They are proven effective forums for championing programmes and people. Find more about the ERGs and how to join them here.

Learning

We provide comprehensive DEI training and educational programmes to raise awareness, promote empathy, and cultive an inclusive workplace culture. These initiatives help employees develop cultural competence, address unconscious biases, and create an environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

Culture Map

In order to increase cultural competencies and cross-cultural collaboration we selected Erin Meyer's The Culture Map as 2022's selection for the DEI book club. The author provides a field-tested model for decoding how cultural differences impact international business, and combines a smart analytical framework with practical, actionable advice. We invited the author Erin Meyer to join us for a bespoke workshop which was hosted by Barbara Weisz. You can watch the recording here.

ERG Workshops

Our ERGs have facilitated and organised many workshops over the last years, from Talking to Kids about LGBTQ+ issues to maximising your Presence and Impact in meetings there is a broad range of topics. You can browse the Recordings Archive here.

Merchants

Thanks to a self-identification feature in the merchant center we can drive more business to self-identified merchants. Groupon customers care about supporting diverse Merchants - supporting minority owned businesses isn't a passing fad. Consumer demographics have shifted, and with that comes greater social awareness and a desire to be more thoughtful with spending. To put it in the words of one consumer, "By purchasing an article of clothing, I am also partaking in social responsibility with their brand identiy." Additionally, today's consumers under the age of 40 come from wide and diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. According to a McKinsey & Company survey, more than 75% of Gen Z consumers will end relationships with companies that run ad campaigns perceived as macho, racist, or homophobic. Groupon is committed to championing our diverse merchant base. These initiatives not only highlight our merchants' rich heritage and cultural backgrounds, but have also boosted their exposure with millions of impressions and thousands of order across each campaign. We're boosting Merchant Sales & Exposure with Multiple Diversity Focussed Campaigns, celebrating the rich and diverse backgrounds of our merchant partners.
